ALROSA Recovers 75-Carat & 110-Carat Rough Diamonds In Yakutia

Russian state-controlled Diamond miner ALROSA said it had recovered two large rough diamonds — a 75-carat stone on July 16 at its Aikhal mine and a 110-carat one on July 18 at its Mirny mine, both in the Yakutia region.

Preliminary estimates indicate that both rough diamonds are gem-quality. They are octahedron crystals with small inclusions, one of them with a straw-yellow tint.

Following its tradition, ALROSA will name the large stones and issue each a special ‘passport’. The company said that the rough diamonds would be used to commemorate two milestones — 60 years of diamond mining in Russia and ALROSA’s 25th anniversary.
