The World Federation of DiamondBourses (WFDB) will hold the next meeting of its Young Diamantaires group at the September edition of the Hong Kong Jewellery and Gem Fair. The meeting will feature a special session on the benefits that blockchain technology can bring diamond and jewellery businesses.
WFDB Promotion Committee Chairman Rami Baron, who created the initiative last year to encourage younger members of the diamond industry worldwide to network, said the breakfast meeting on September 15 would include a discussion on the advantages that blockchain can provide. Leanne Kemp, the founder of Australian start-up Everledger, which uses blockchain, smart contracts and machine vision to prevent risk and fraud for banks, insurers and open marketplaces and to ensure ethical trading, will make a presentation on the technology.
“Blockchain is a fascinating technology which can provide huge benefits to the diamond and jewellery industries, and this will be an opportunity to learn all about it,” said Baron.
The group consists of younger members of organisations, diamond firms, bourses and diamond retailers from around the world who communicate on a regular basis using social media to discuss issues affecting them.
