ALROSA Recovers 34-Carat Yellow Diamond

ALROSA announced that it had recovered a 34.17-carat yellow diamond from the Ebelyakh alluvial deposit at its Almazy Anabara mine. It is the largest fancy-coloured rough diamond extracted by the company this year.

The stone will be assessed in Moscow by the United Selling Organization (USO), ALROSA’s rough sales arm.

USO director Evgeny Agureev observed that this year has seen a record number of large fancy-coloured diamonds being recovered by ALROSA. “We used to extract fancy-coloured rough diamonds over 10 carats once a year on average. This year, we have already recovered several and this 34.17-carat yellow stone is the largest one so far,” he said.

The Almazy Anabara mine is traditionally the leader in terms of the number of fancy-coloured stones it produces.Earlier this year a 27.85-carat pure pink diamond — the largest pink in ALROSA’s history — was recovered at the mine.
