- Eat a healthy, well-balanced diet – A diet which consists of different types of food and provides an adequate amount of nutrition to the body is called a balanced diet. To lead a healthy life balanced diet is most important. Nutritional value varies depending on the age; average men need 2500 calories to remain healthy. In these 2500 calories, 55g of protein, 300g of carbohydrates, 120g of sugar, 95g of fat, 30g of saturates, 9g of salt and 30g of fiber is needed. Managing the diet and making sure that it contains all the above-mentioned nutrient will help in leading a healthy life.
- Visit a doctor regularly – Men are less likely to visit a doctor than women. The doctor can help in monitoring weight, blood pressure and cholesterol level in blood. The doctor can also recommend lifestyle changes to keep weight, blood pressure and cholesterol under control. One should discuss all the aspects of health with the doctor, including mental, physical and sexual.
- Get moving – Regular exercising with a balanced diet is the best way for maintaining overall physical and mental well being. Try at least 30 minutes of physical activity which can include walking, jogging, swimming or any sport. Weight lifting, yoga, meditation can also help in developing physical and mental endurance. Also, take help from professional and vary your workout, mix it with aerobics, muscle training and stretching.
- Sleep matters – Sleep has the same importance as eating, drinking and breathing on the health. An average man should get at least 7 hours of sleep every day. During sleep body’s cells are reenergized, the body heals itself and brain clears all the waste. Poor sleep leads to a physical and mental problem like the weakening of the immune system, depression, etc.
- Stress management – Being a man is a stressful job, and this takes a toll on mental and physical health. Various symptoms which indicate that you are taking too much stress are insomnia, irritability, excessive drinking, depression, suicidal thoughts, etc. There are various ways to de-stress like exercise, meditation, massage. If these measures are also ineffective, then visit a psychiatrist.
- Drink alcohol responsibly – Though alcohol is injurious to health when consumed in moderation it is beneficial. For a man below age 65 two drinks, a day is considered moderate. When consumed in moderate amount alcohol reduces the risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes, and heavy drinking leads to certain types of cancer, liver damage, increased blood pressure, suicidal thoughts, stroke, etc.
